Late Muromachi to Momoyama period Ko Kinko tsuba. Shakudo plate construction tsuba with a gold and shakudo floral design consisting of cheery blossoms and gingko leaves. Nanako ground, gold flowers and droplets, shakudo flowers, leaves and vines. Finished with a shakudo fukurin.

Although I have displayed this tsuba in katana fashion (as I believe is should be), it appears to have been worn in the tachi fashion. There is strong evidence of ware in the nanako at the bottom of the tsuba in the left hand image. This is the front or Omote of the tsuba that faces out and the thumb would normally rest on this side when the sword was held while being worn. I do believe however this is a tsuba for a katana and should be displayed as one. How it may have been worn at different stages of it's life is only open to conjecture.
